Thing #22 cellphone

After looking at all of the information that your cell phone can do i realize that I am also being left behind...there are so many things you can do with a cell phone you just don't know where to start. I feel like Luann a cell phone is no longer just for making phone calls. Now that we were on vacation my son took out his Blackberry to get directions, find the restuant number, call, and make dinner reservations no more of wondering if you are lost or not (no more reason to stop and ask for directions. Now using it in the school room there are lots of possiblities and lots of issues that can come up with cheating, texting each other for the answers , googling the answers, the cheating possiblites are endless. I am sure in my life time the laptop will be replaced by the iphone or something like that it is all ready on its way of doing that. Just looking at the websites that are out there is endless. i just like knowing that I can google a business or resturant on my cell phone and get directions and a phone number and know where I am going.

Lots of information to digest.

thing 21 copy right

Research, research, research...I think like anything you want to do well you have to practice, practice, practice. Research is one of the best ways to have them practice. Teaching copyright to students means that you have to keep repeating the process to them. I also think this is something that you have to remind teachers that they have to also follow the process. How many times have you asked teachers if they have taught this to their students and they look at you like you are asking them to do something illegal:)

thing 20 social networking

social networking is not something that I would do on a regular basis but I can see where and how it can be a useful thing for some people. I know that Martha Stewart has a MySpace page and people visit her regularly. If you need to communicate with a large group of people then that is one way of doing it. what I like about these sites are that you can find information on just about anything that you are looking for. I went to Open Food Source and find a new site for recipes I am always looking for a new recipe.

thing #17

award winning apps: I like using Craigslist as a free community market place. I used it when we were moving to Longmont to sell items that I did not want to move. We had an old upright piano that was pretty heavy and belonged to my son and he was not moving it to California and I was not moving it to Longmont so Craigslist it was and I had five phone calls for it in less than half-an-hour it worked just as advertised. If you need it or want to sell it Craigslist is the place to look for it.

thing 14

I made a podcast followed directions but when it came time to put in on my blog I could not figure out how to get a url address to put it on so everyone can hear my book talk. Not as easy as it looks but I can see how you can use it on your school website. I would like to see it used in the classroom especially for kids with disabilities or those who are "challenged".

thing #10

My technology in the library has been difficult this year as I have had to learn how to use a MAC and the MAC is winning the battle:) I can not figure out the new termnology. i have been on the internet for about an hour trying to figure out what the "finder" key is and i think it is some kind of menu or tool bar. How do I get to the finder i have no idea but I am working on it. How do you empty the trash bin on a MAC? have no idea, how do i find the toolbar on Word? have no idea but hope to figure it out. This reminds me of learning how to drive a "stick" after you have been drivig an automatic for years but you do eventually figure it out. I will add pictures once I figure out how to do it. technology is NOT for the faint of heart:)

Thing #3

Now that I have finally had a chance to figure out RSS I know I don't need to keep up with the 'news" I don't read the daily newspaper if I don't hear it on the radio or 10 o'clock nightly news I don't know about and don't need to know about it. I can see if you are in a business that things keep changing on a daily basis and need to know what is going on. RSS is a good link to use if you need to be connected to all of these blogs but I don't think i will be needing it any time soon.

Thing #4

Technorati: it is truly another search engine. I looked at entertainment, home decorating and finally middle school book list....nothing....middle school reluctant readers...nothing I wanted to take the time to read....I got lots of Christian book clubs not what I was looking for. This site reminds me of looking at a Readers Digest any thing you are looking for is in here. I can see how trying to find that unusual answer to that unusual question can be found on this site. Interesting.... will I remember to use it...probably not. We are creatures of habit...we just learned how to use the computer and the Internet and get rid of the typewriter (unless you are at Sunset and still use it) now there is something else out there to I need to learn? Maybe?? I am still learning how to use text messaging on my phone and all of the other links to my cell phone...there is a tip calculator...which I need to know how to use:) (found it by accident) I learned how to text Goggle on my cell phone and get a business if I need to know the address to put in my GPS or get the phone number to see if they are still opened or find the local theater if I am not home to get the movie times or what movies are coming out....those are useful tools for me MAYBE if I get the hang of Technorati it may become useful to me also.

clicking buttons

where oh where are all the buttons to click?

learning to blog

this is like journal writing...do you have enough time to journal? Do i want to journal? do you really want people to see what you have written and comment on your sentence structure, grammar and thoughts? there is a lot to learn and as you get older can you remember all that you blogged? maybe this will be like the movie 50 first dates you can go back and read what you posted and review and wonder why you said that and did you really say that?
